Our excursion on the island of El Hierro
The departure from the island of Tenerife to the island of El Hierro.
At 7:20 in the morning, the meeting point is at the port of Los Cristianos, in front of the ARMAS ticket office, obviously for those who want, we are available with a pick-up service at some points in Costa Adeje, Las Américas and The Christians. Once the count of the participants has been completed, we will board the ferry and in just over two hours we will arrive on the island of El Hierro .
In the port of El Hierro we will get on our bus, the viewpoints await us!
Waiting for us at the “Porto de la Estaca” we will find our bus and after some recommendations we will begin our fantastic excursion. We will visit some of the most exciting viewpoints that the island offers starting from “ISORA”, a fabulous view of an arch-shaped bay called Las Playas, where we can see one of the symbols of the island “El Roque de la Bonanza”. After a short stop, we will calmly depart again to the 1300 meter “Mirador de Jinama”, from which, weather permitting, we will be able to see the western islands of the Canary Islands (La Palma, La Gomera and the island of Tenerife) with Mount Teide standing out above all! Obviously we will be at a considerable height and thanks to the warm and dry trade winds we will be able to enjoy splendid colors and visibility that can only be found in the Canary Islands.
La Frontera Rural Park and the Laurisilva Ecosystem
During our descent, towards the “Parque Rural de La Frontera”, we will discover the various bioclimatic steps of the smaller island . We will pass inside the Laurisilva (in Latin laurel forest) and enjoy its incredible show. A natural ecosystem that existed at the time of the dinosaurs and then became extinct during the ice age. Obviously, these plants survive thanks to the humidity that only the cold and humid trade winds can offer with the miracle of horizontal rain.
In the Laurisilva we will find an infinity of endemic plants that we will not be able to find anywhere else in the world, an ecological complex that deserves to be described in a particular way in one of the next articles that I intend to write.
La Frontera and typical lunch
In La Frontera, we will have the opportunity to visit the church of La Candelaria, as well as the “Lucha Canaria” terrero and we will be able to enjoy a quiet break in the bar tasting the local wines. After resuming the trip, we will stop at the restaurant where we will be served a typical lunch, a menu prepared especially for us, also suitable for celiacs (for any other information or food problems, do not hesitate to contact us +34 922 712 315).
The natural pools and the smallest hotel in the world.
Later, passing through the Pineapple, Papaya, Mango and Canarian Banana crops, we will go to the natural pools of La Maceta:
During the summer months it is also possible to swim!
With due calm we will continue to the most popular points of the island!
In Las Puntas is located hotel PUNTA GRANDE, a very peculiar hotel that has collected several titles over time, first of all the “smallest hotel in the world according to the Guinness World Record” and among others it has been declared a BIC “of cultural interest” by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2018.
Last stop view point of La Peña.
Located at the top of the caldera that forms the Gulf of La Frontera, about 700 meters high, we will find the view point of La Peña completely designed and built by Cesar Manrique. An impressive view that will allow us to observe the entire gulf and “Los Roques del Salmor” and will give us a moment of relaxation with the opportunity to have a good coffee before returning to the port.
